The Top 5 Biggest Recording Studio Mistakes Of All Time *A MUST READ*

This was sent to me by a successful producer who wanted to share his recording studio knowledge.  I whole heartedly agree with them, so here the are:

The Top 5 Biggest Recording Studio Mistakes of All Time….

#5 – Not practicing your lyrics before your studio session
This should go without saying, but if I had a dollar for every rapper or singer that had stepped into my recording studio unprepared I’d be Bill Gates himself.  Take the time the night before to practice and perfect your lyrics! This will save everyone time and frustration as no one enjoys an artist fumbling and tripping over lyrics for hours at a time (It also makes you look like a bafoon in front of your groupies!). And lastly, If you’re paying by the hour than you’ll simply accomplish much more and get your monies worth.
#4 – Inviting the whole block to the studio
I know its very tempting to invite all your boys and homegirls to witness you making magic in the studio but truthfully this is one of the worst things you can do as it’s a major distraction for you, and your engineer.  I’ve watched clients book 4 hour sessions, arrive drunk with 5 or 6 homies who have nothing to do with the song, and in the 4 hours they’ve only recorded 2 verses and pissed away the rest of the time laughing and bugging out.  Cut this down to just one or two key people who tell it like it is and let the rest of the block hear it on the mixtape, or better yet.. They should buy your CD to support you instead!
#3 – Needing to be buzzed before recording
Many artists (especially rappers) have fallen into the habit of needing to get high or tipsy before recording, but this habit will only continue to grow like weeds (Pun intended).  I totally get that smoking or drinking can help ease the nerves and get you into a zone but this can be dangerous if over abused.   I’ve watched many artists piss their careers down the toilet after becoming addicted to this habit.  At 1st they just needed a few pulls, then after that wasn’t enough they needed a whole blunt…. At this pace, what drug are you gonna need when it’s time to perform in front of millions if you ever get on? This is how many celebrities rise and fall right before our eyes. Be careful with this.
#2 –Bringing Free/Tagged Beats to A Professional Studio
I’ve watched dozens of artists jump on soundclick, download a free beat then bring it to the studio and ask me to edit out the tags (The B B Beats Planet Voice).. Not only is this wrong, buts its stupid.. because the time they were paying me to edit out the tags winds up costing them the same if not more than the price the producer is charging for the Lease/TAGLESS beat.  Real Talk!  You should respect the producer and leave his/her tags in, or if you really enjoy their music than show your appreciation by paying for the beat.  Don’t be one of those freeloading bozo’s out there.
And the #1 winner……………
#1 – Thinking you’re a “Know It All” Super Star, when everyone knows your not!
Leave Your Ego At The Door !  Nobody likes a “Know it all” showoff nor will that attitude help your song in the studio. When collaborating with other musicians stop being the man (or woman) for a minute and be open minded as the other individuals are simply trying to help you improve your work.  Every single time I shut my big mouth and listened instead, 99% of the time great ideas were pitched to me by my colleagues.
There you have it, the “Top 5 Biggest Studio Mistakes Of All Time”

NEW MOVIE: SOMETHING FROM NOTHING: THE ART OF RAP

Ice Cube has made something really dope; we should support it. Read about it below.

Director Ice-T takes us on a journey to explore the roots of Hip-Hop from the beginning to the cultural phenomenon it’s become today in Something to Nothing: Art of Rap. The documentary features appearances from Kanye West, Eminem, Nas, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Common, DJ Premier, Q-Tip, Raekwon, Bun B, MC Lyte and plenty more. Here’s our first preview of the upcoming film which hits theatres on June 15. Looks like it’s going to be a good watch.

NEW VIDEO: MAC MILLER – THOUGHTS FROM A BALCONY

Mac drops his second single of his forthcoming album, Macadelic, called “Thoughts From My Balcony”.  Its a dope song and Miller stays in his lane.  His fans wont be disappointed.

WARNING: NOT SAFE FOR WORK!!!!

KANYE TO BE ON ‘KARDASHIAN’ TV SHOW

I don’t care about these two but I kept hearing about them last year that I thought everyone knew the deal.  Anyway, now that everyone knows what we knew in 09 (Click here for the 2009 article).  I figured that I would confirm the rumour that Kanye is going to be on the show.  Again, this is old news.  Enjoy!

Hmmmmm?

NEW BOOK: SNOOP DOGG’S – ‘ROLLING PAPERS’

I am a fan of Snoop Dogg, I remember countless days in high school and nights in clubs rapping along with his songs but that is not why I am buying his new book.  It is the business mind within me and the appreciation for a true synergy between a product and its message that have made fall in love with this book.  In essence, this book captures the very aura and mantra of Snoop and his greatest past time before you even read it.  Check out the book’s description and then hear the Dogg Father speak on his book.

A few days after announcing a new 4/20 sneaker collaboration between Curren$y and Diamond Supply Co., the Doggfather himself, Snoop Dogg, has announced an “eco-friendly” product for purchase later this year when his new book, Rolling Words: A Smokable Songbook, hits store-shelves.

The miniature-sized book that will be available for purchase this summer contains a number of pages filled with lyrics to some of Snoop’s most memorable songs like “Gin and Juice,” “Beautiful,” “From Tha Chuuuch To Tha Palace,” “Snoop Dogg”, and many more.

The pages themselves are smokeable and made from the same paper that is used in Snoop’s very own king-sized slim rolling papers (which are available now), while the book and its cover are made from hemp and twine.

That’s not all, though, folks. The spine of Rolling Words: A Smoklable Songbook contains a surface that can be used to strike a match for those unfortunate nights when you don’t have a lighter by your side.

“I made this book so people can always remember: you can roll with an expert, you can roll with Snoop.”

P.S.

I see the grey is coming in Snoop. Another testimony of your time tested influence.

2 CHAINZ – RIOT (EXPLICIT)

I haven’t seen the video yet (its been a busy morning) but why should I make you wait?  Check it out and let me know if 2 Chainz has done it again.  Peep game.

YOUNG JEEZY HAS 2 CONCERTS IN 2 CITIES THAT RESULTED IN 2 SHOOT OUTS!

I love me a Young Jeezy record and it would seem that so do some of the gun men in Ontario.  In two consecutive concerts, Toronto and London, Atlanta artist and trap star Jeezy has had both concerts cancelled due to shootings. You might want to settle for buy the CD until people realize true security is part the cost of booking an artist.

THE ACTION MOVIE THAT BEATS UP ALL OTHER ACTION MOVIES! PERIOD.

Every so often there comes along a piece of work, an offering so artistically beyond its contemporaries that it not only surpaces them but makes them obsolete. This is the effect The Raid: Redemption has on it’s viewers; this is the type of find you want to be the first to reveal to your social circle. Brutal, calculated, intense, pulsating, vivid and intoxicating; in short The Raid is quite possibly the best action movie, pound for bone breaking bloody pound, that you may ever see (this is not an overstatement). Every nuonce, every punch, kick, block, sequence and even grunt executed with delicate care. Do not think the best scenes are in the trailer, it would be impossible to choose summary scenes for this movie. Everyone in theater left thinking “How can I watch another action movie again after this?”.  I purposefully have told you nothing about the film.  Research and find out about this gem yourself.  I was having a bad day and this was just the treat I needed.  Your welcome.

Go see it and remember I put you on.

NEW VIDEO: 2 CHAINZ – ‘RIOT’

I like this already.  What I like about 2 Chainz is that he is making me a believer.  Unlike Meek Millz who I instantly liked, Chainz I liked but was not fully sold on and he is making it impossible to not be down with movement.  Get ‘em playboy.
