JAY-Z SIGNS TIMBALAND TO ROC NATION

Jay-Z has signed Timbaland to his influential Roc Nation label.  Welcome back playboy.

CHRIS BROWN AND FRANK OCEAN ARE FIGHTING IN THE STUDIO; POLICE ARE NOW ON THE SCENE

Apparentley these guys with their long standing beef have finally made it official by kicking off in the studio.  This is happening now at West Lake Studios in California and police are on the scene.  Allegedley this started with one of Frank Ocean’s team attacking Breezy and then it became the WWE lol.

Does this seem stupid to anyone else?; lol millionaire diva problems.

CHANGE IS COMING AND WITH IT, POSSIBLY THE END OF CABLE TV!

I read an article in the new GQ (I suggest you read it too) that infromed me of the new, bold investment to the tune of 300 million dollars that Netflix is making in original programming!  For people outside of the US, namely Canada, this is a massive deal.  We (Canadians in Toronto) pay anywhere from $45 – $65 before taxes a month for digital quality cable.  I personally have a package that includes hundreds of channels, costs roughly $55 per month once bundled with other services and I barely watch much more than news and the VIBE music channel.  Albeit I love my HDPVR box, pausing and rewinding live TV is God sent but I have been thinking of scrapping cable for a minute now.

Enter Netflix; Netflix has invested millions in directors and producers to produce high quality, original programming which they feel will set them ahead of their main competitor HBO.  In the words of one the Netflix execs quoted in the article, (paraphrasing) “We are trying to become better at what they do before they figure out how to become better at what we do”.  Netflix wants you to see the future the way they do; no waiting, your favourite TV shows available one entire season at a time plus movies for you to consume as you wish at a cost of only $8 per month.  This would also free producers to make episodes as long as or as short as the integrity of the program dictates; creative freedom.  This is a gamble with many of the risks outlined in the GQ article; I sincerely hope you read it.  The edition shouldn’t be too hard to find, its the one with the cover that is getting all the attention this month

ASAP ROCKY IS ONLY THE 5TH NEW YORK RAPPER TO CHART #1 IN 5 YEARS

Asap Rocky may have a single called “F*cking Problems” but unless he is speaking on Biggie’s more money more problems issues, we aren’t to sympathetic.

Rocky’s album, according to Soundscan has just charted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts with 138,503 units sold in the first week. 

Come on East coast, there has been a lot of talk of about wanting your spot back.  If you want some shine I’d say 2013 is your best chance in a long time.  I believe Frenchie is up next and there are high expectations for Pusha T.  Meanwhile, salute to the South for holding me down the last couple of years.  This may sound harsh but if I were left only with what the rest of the industry has been pushing, I may have lost interest a long time ago.

EAST COAST HIPHOP MAY GET IT’S SECOND COMING SOON

Angela Yee let some insider info leak during an interview with Vado.  Word is MMG is courting Juelz Santana and that DJ Khaled’s ‘We The Best’ is courting Vado.  Coincidence that both have new mixtapes and coming material?; come on playboy you know better than that.  Nothing increases the budget during bargaining like a healthy buzz on the streets.

Remember Busta Rhymes has an album coming with CMB, French Montana with Bad Boy and the Lox and Wu-Tang are rumoured to be releasing projects soon!

ALL PETS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL; MEET ENZO

This is my dream pet, a large cat (I would love probably any of them although I would likely go for a smaller one like a panther or a cheetah).  I saw this video and thought the speed of such a heavy powerful animal was astonishing.  After viewing this video online, someone made the comment below in response to what would would you do if Enzo was coming at you:

Justin’s return has been talked about for awhile but I guess now is the time and here is the video for the single that was leaked a few weeks ago.  Check it out and let me know what you think, is he back?

PUBLIC ENEMY & EVE ARE BACK!

My respect for this group and it’s affect on my youth is without limit (I don’t even know what to make of Flava Flav’s circus life in more recent years).  I am so happy to announce that they have a new video and its amazing!  Check it out and hear the message.

The good music news continues with Eve’s return to the music stage.  I thought it was just a random video but it seems that the pitbull in a mini skirt is back and dropping new material.  I personally hope she becomes popular again because right now she is our best bet at getting a less sex charged, more skill based artist to be a role model to the ladies.

(AllHipHop News) Philadelphia rapper Eve has revealed details about her upcoming fourth album, titled Lip Lock.

Eve’s new album, which is due in stores in May, will feature appearances from artists like Snoop Lion, Juicy J, Pusha T, and Chrisette Michelle.

“Lip Lock is the album I’ve always wanted to make and it represents me coming back in to game—lyrically locking it down,” Eve said. “But I also like the title because it’s can be a play on words.”

The first single from the album is titled “She Bad Bad,” which also has an accompanying video that has already garnered well over 1 million views.

Today (January 23), Eve dropped the remix to “She Bad Bad” featuring Pusha T and Juicy J.

Eve’s fourth album Lip Lock is slated to hit stores on May 14.

SNOOP LION IS BEING THREATENED BY THE RASTA COMMUNITY

Oh Snoop, Snoop, Snoop …. words cannot express … still speechless.  Well it seems that the Rastafarien community is no longer in support of Snoop and his new transformation.  What seems to be at issue is that they now believe that Snoop just used their religion as a promotional tool and an excuse to film a documentary of his transformation.  High ranking Rasta leaders from the Ethio-Africa Diaspora Union Millenium Council state that they explained to Snoop that being a Rasta is more than just smoking weed and loving Bob Marley.  The offended parties are demanding that Snoop stop using the Lion part of his new name (as are we) and that he pay for the damages he has caused to the image of the religion.

I miss the old Snoop, can he just come back so that we can forget this … whatever it is?

9 YEAR OLD BRAMPTON BOY SHOT TO DEATH!

Nine year old Keshean Williams was shot by a random bullet from outside that entered inside his home and eventually killed the young child later in hospital.  This is a sad way to start this Thursday morning.  Rest in peace to the young spirit and prayers and blessings go out to the family.
